Step 1 – Backup your photos

Before we teach you how to permanently delete Facebook, it is important that we also teach you how to back up photos published on the social network.

However, if you don't want to back up the photos, just go to the next step right after.

  • For the backup process, that is, to save your account information before permanently deleting it, you must access Facebook settings and click on “Your Facebook Information” as you can see in the image below:
  • After clicking onYour Information on Facebook”, the next step is to click on “Download Your Information”. In this link, as you will see in the image below, a series of boxes will appear already marked with the information you want to download.
  • As our focus here is on images, we will leave only the images box checked, but if you want to save, for example, conversations or other publications that you made before deleting Facebook, that is also possible.
  • Once this is done, just click on “Generate File” and the following message will appear:
  • Just wait a few minutes and the copy will be available for download, don't worry, Facebook will let you know when it's ready.
  • When downloading the file, you will notice that it is zipped, what does that mean? It has been compressed so that multiple files can be inserted. Therefore, to unzip these files, all you need is a program to extract zipped files, such as WinRar, or, if you are accessing it on your cell phone, some similar app.
  • For those accessing via computer/laptop, after downloading and opening the file in the extraction program, just right-click on the desired folder, in this case, Photos or Images depending on the information you have saved, and click in "extract to…", select the folder where you want to save the images and that's it! All images are saved and you are ready to delete your Facebook account.

Having done this step by step on how to back up your photos, it's time to get to what really matters, that is, deleting Facebook.

2nd step – deleting Facebook account

After saving your images, it's time to permanently delete your Facebook account.

Just one caveat: Facebook offers two options for deleting your account, the temporary one, that is, when you want to return to the social network, just log in again and, finally, the permanent one which is the focus of our text.

So, without further ado, let's go step by step which is very simple to do.

  • Firstly, to permanently delete your account, you must click on “Deactivation and Deletion” as can be seen in the first image here in the post.
  • Clicking on this button, the following image will appear:
  • As can be seen in the previous image, you have two options to delete the account. The first is Account Deactivation, where your account will be deactivated and thus your name and photos will be removed, but you will still be able to use Messenger (Facebook's messaging app). And the second option, which is our focus, “delete account permanently”, and as the image warns, you will not be able to recover the content or information shared on Facebook, that's why we highlight the importance of making a backup of everything you consider important. In addition, you will not be able to use Messenger and your messages will also be deleted.
  • Then, by clicking on the “Permanently delete account” and moving forward, a box will appear showing everything you are going to delete, as well as a warning reminding you that Messenger will also be deleted, giving you a second chance so you don't delete the account but deactivate it, a warning to download information such as photos (such as as we did before), videos, among others and, if you are the administrator of a page within the social network, the page will also be deleted.
  • By clicking on continue, your Facebook account will be permanently deleted, as well as other information shared on the network.

As you can see in this article, deleting Facebook is not as difficult as many people think it is.

Just have a little patience, have a file extraction program to download your photos and that's it, you can proceed with deleting the social network.
