The School of Sergeants of Arms (ESA) is an institution of the Brazilian Army responsible for training career sergeants in the Infantry, Cavalry, Artillery, Engineering and Communications branches, in addition to the Health and Music qualifications. The ESA competition is highly competitive, and to participate, it is necessary to meet a series of minimum requirements. This article details these requirements to guide interested candidates.

1. Nationality and Marital Status

  • Nationality: The candidate must be a Brazilian citizen.
  • Marital status: There are no specific restrictions on the marital status of candidates. However, it is important that the candidate is aware of the implications of a military career in terms of mobility and time spent in service.

2. Age

  • Age limit: Candidates must be at least 17 and no more than 24 years old by the date of enrollment in the training course. For candidates in the Health area, the maximum age is 26 years old.

3. Education

  • High School: The candidate must have completed high school or be able to complete it by the date of enrollment in the training course. Proof of completion must be provided by presenting a certificate or diploma recognized by the Ministry of Education (MEC).

4. Height and Weight

  • Minimum Height: The minimum height required is 1.60 m for male candidates and 1.55 m for female candidates.
  • Weight: Weight must be in proportion to height, following the body mass index (BMI) standards acceptable to the Brazilian Army. During the health inspection, it will be verified whether the candidate meets the required standards.

5. Physical Fitness

  • Physical Fitness Test (TAF): Candidates must pass a physical fitness test, which usually includes running, push-ups, sit-ups, among others. The specific TAF criteria are detailed in the competition notice and may vary depending on the candidate's gender and age.

6. Medical Fitness

  • Health Exam: The candidate must be considered fit in a medical examination that assesses general health. This examination checks for the presence of diseases or conditions that may be incompatible with military service.
  • Vision and Hearing: Vision and hearing must be within Army standards. Corrections with glasses or contact lenses are acceptable within certain limits.

7. Psychological Aptitude

  • Psychological Assessment: The candidate must pass a psychological assessment that assesses characteristics such as emotional balance, teamwork skills, leadership, stress resistance, among others. This step is crucial to determine the candidate's suitability for the demands of a military career.

8. Military and Criminal Situation

  • Military Situation: Male candidates must be up to date with military obligations. This can be proven by presenting a Reservist Certificate or equivalent document.
  • Criminal Record: The candidate must not have a criminal record. A social investigation will be carried out to verify the candidate's moral suitability and social conduct.

9. Other Specific Requirements

  • Birth or Marriage Certificate: It is necessary to present a birth certificate or, if married, a marriage certificate.
  • Identification Document: ID and CPF must be up to date and within the validity period.
  • Proof of address: The candidate must present a recent proof of residence.

10. Specific Requirements for Technical Areas

For candidates who choose specific areas, such as Health and Music, there may be additional requirements, such as:

  • Health: Technical or professional training in the health area, such as nursing technician.
  • Music: Proven musical ability and training, with presentation of certificates or diplomas in the area being required.
